Agathonisi

Agathonisi is the northermost island of the Dodecanese. Agathonisi located on the edge of Greece under Samos, near the west coast of Turkey and has a coastline of 7 km and a width of 3 km. The majority of the island is volcanic with many few plains . The population ranges from 158 inhabitants in winter to 200 residents mainly during the summer months There are three villages (Agios Georgios, Micro Chorio and Megalo Chorio) with traditional buildings and lovely gardens. Agathonisi is endowed with a significant and sensitive ecosystem. Along with nearby islands it is listed in the Natura Programme as a protected area since it is the habitat of rare bird species.
There are ferries to Patmos, Leipsoi, Samos, Samos and Kalimnos every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. We suggest to go for a swim in Spilia, Poros Cove, Tsagari and Gaidouravlakos. In addition, we suggest to go to Agathonisi for two events. Agios Panteleimn feasts on July 27th and Panagia feasts on August 15th. During the celebrations visitors are offered bread baked in a traditional wood-burning oven, cooked meat from locally raised livestock and traditional sweets.
